RoHS Compliance

ICE Technology has put into place a plan of action to comply with the RoHS 2002/95/EW directive. The following is the details of this plan in regards to the equipment that Nohau® supplies as a Development Tool Vendor.

The banned materials under this directive are lead, Mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl, and polybrominated diphenyl ether.

I. Enclosures: The plastics and metals that are used in conjunction with our products are currently compliant with this standard and don't contain the banned materials.

Paint: The paint used for the enclosures is lead-free based paint.

II. Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs): All productions of PCBs after May 1, 2006 will follow the ECO outline dated November 21, 2005. These ECOs state the following:

Surface Finish: RoHS Compliant - Immersion Silver

Solder Mask: RoHS Compliant color Green

Epoxy Nomenclature Ink: White in color

Material: Material must meet all RoHS compliant standards for a lead free assembly process.
- Td value greater the 320 Degree C.
- Z axis CTE Value must be 3.5% or less.

Assembly of PCBs: Use of LEAD free solder for both first and second assemblies.

III. Components & Integrated Circuits (ICs): All parts purchased for Assembly Kits starting on May 1, 2006 will follow the Directive on outlined in the ECO dated November 21, 2005.

Elimination of the use of specific Hazardous - Two such examples are:
- The Montreal Protocol that addressed the use of Ozone Depleting Substances.
- The EPA's Toxic Substance Control Act that addressed the use of Polychlorinated Biphenyl compounds (PCBs) and asbestos in the United States. Even such "localized" regulatory restrictions often have far reaching implications because of increasing market globalization and as other jurisdictions simply copy and implement similar restrictions.

One impending regulatory action that is expected to have far reaching consequences is the European Union Directive 2002/95/EC1. This Directive on the "Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment" (RoHS), requires that such equipment must not contain the following chemicals:
- Lead (Pb)
- Chromium VI (Cr 6+)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)

IV. Power Supplies - Third party vendors: All vendors of the power supplies used by Nohau® have either already complied with or undergoing changes to comply with the RoHS directive. Along with the CE, and WEEE directives.
